Mr. Lewis

I oppose the relocation of I-74 through Stechoah as a local resident, former Appalchian Trail hiker, I strongly believe this road is unnecessary and will do much more harm than good. The local economy is growing precisely because of its rural character which this road would go a long way toward destroying. I am a local business owner and this road also threatens the health of my business. I am a forester and part of an effort to revitalize the rural economy by developing a workforce and markets for sustainably harvested wood products. Road construction such as this continues to diminish the resource base this economy depends on by stimulating further land use change and driving out the local work force. Lastly, the Appalachian Trail is one of our national treasures and its passage through the southern Appalachians is one of its greatest moments. To build this road would be to diminish this treasure for my children and all current and future generations of Americans. Not to mention, the price tag for this road is massive, funds which could be put to use to stimulate our economy much more effectively elsewhere.
